The team stayed inactive for 4 years, 1996 to 1999, because of some unavoidable reasons. In 1999, they were back with a new stadium. Just before the 2005 season, Romero Crennel, assistant coach for Chris Palmer and the New England Patriots’ defensive coordinator was named as the Head coach of Cleveland Browns. But, the team could celebrate only losing ceremonies in 2005 and 2006 seasons. After the consecutive loses, ESPN reported that John Collins, President of Browns has decided to fire Phil Savage, General Manager. But, things happened was downside up. On 3rd January, 2006 John Collins resigned because of the strong opposal from local media and fans.
There was a remarkable change in the team in 2007 season. They opened the season by defeating Pittsburgh Steelers with a 34-7 and finally, clinched the series with 10-6. This was the best record of the team since 1994. Crennel, then coach of the team signed 2 year extension contract after this notable victory. Between the years 1970-1995, they won 3 Divisional playoffs and 1 Wild playoffs.
